Academic Employment Opportunities at York University
"The
principal criterion for appointment to positions at York University is
academic and professional excellence."
Welcome to the York University Academic Employment Opportunities
website. The Office of the Vice-President Academic has established this
site to provide information on full-time academic appointments available
at York. On this site you will find links to available academic
positions, research news and professional development resources,
academic policies, collective agreements, relocation services, Faculty and program information,
news and a directory of key contacts on campus. While every effort has
been made to ensure that all full-time faculty and librarian appointment
opportunities are listed through this site, interested individuals should
also consult the CAUT Bulletin, University Affairs, The
Globe and Mail, and professional journals and other publications. For
information on job postings for part-time teaching positions, please
contact the relevant Faculty or unit.
York University has ten Faculties,
ranging from liberal arts to professional schools in law, education, and
business, to environmental studies, fine arts, and science. The York
University Libraries homepage
has information on York's many libraries. York is at the centre of innovation, with a
thriving community of almost 60,000 faculty, staff and students who challenge
the ordinary and deliver the unexpected. The
Universitys main
campus is located in the centre of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Glendon College, Yorks bilingual liberal arts Faculty, is in mid-town
Toronto. The schools of business and law have each also established a
downtown site.
York is a unionized workplace. The York University Faculty Association
(YUFA) represents
all full-time faculty and professional librarians (with the exception of
those appointed to the law school). The University has an affirmative
action program to promote equity in the employment of women, members
of visible/racial minorities, aboriginal people and persons with
disabilities. All appointments are authorized by the Vice-President
Academic and approved by the President. The appointment process (Article 12 from YUFA Collective Agreement - pdf) is conducted by the relevant department or Faculty, in accord with
the provisions of the Collective
Agreement (pdf) between YUFA and the Board of Governors of the University.
The University makes two types of full-time academic appointments. Tenure-stream
appointments are ones in which the faculty member will be a candidate for tenure
and/or promotion (pdf) within six years of the appointment. Contractually-limited
appointments are for a limited term generally one, two, or three years
and carry no implication for continuation beyond that term. For
a list of full-time academic positions currently available at York
University, listed by discipline/field, hiring unit, and Faculty, please

York faculty members provide quality education and innovative research
to achieve the University's mission.
All qualified applicants are invited to apply to join Yorks faculty.
Priority is given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents in Canada.
