David Mirvish

David Mirvish is a Toronto-based theatrical producer who has produced shows in Toronto, across Canada, in London, England and on Broadway.

Mr. Mirvish began his career as an art dealer. From 1963 to 1978, the David Mirvish Gallery held regular exhibitions of new works by artists from Canada, the U.S. and England. The Gallery was and still is a frequent lender to international exhibitions at museums and galleries throughout the world. In its 30-year history, his bookstore, David Mirvish Books/Books on Art has established a reputation as one of Toronto's premier independent booksellers.

Mr. Mirvish has served as secretary to the Art Dealers Association of Canada and as a member of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board, and recently completed a term as a member of the Board of Trustees of the National Gallery of Canada. He was honoured with the Toronto Arts Award for the Visual Arts in 1994.

Mr. Mirvish owns and operates two theatres in Toronto: The Royal Alexandra Theatre and The Princess of Wales Theatre. Mirvish Productions , a company formed by Mr. Mirvish in 1986, produces live theatre for these and other venues throughout Canada, the U.S.A. and England. In 1982, together with his father, Ed Mirvish, Mr. Mirvish purchased and refurbished the venerable The Old Vic Theatre in London, England. It was sold to The Old Vic Theatre Trust in 1998.

In 2006 Mirvish Productions will present the world premiere of the stage version of The Lord of the Rings, an unprecedented, wide reaching theatrical event with a budget of 27 million dollars.
