Governance Structure
The governance structure for the ACT for Youth project includes a Partnership Group; a Knowledge Mobilization and Communication Community; a Research Advisory Committee; and five Research Theme Working Groups. Each of these committees and Working Groups are led by both a community and an academic project team member. A Project Manager who is primarily responsible for budgeting and project coordination provides support to all the committees and working groups. The Partnership Group (PG), the governing body for the project, is made up of all project team members, representatives of our partners, youth, and students that are affiliated with the project. The PG is co-chaired by Sue Wilkinson (Executive Director and CEO at Findhelp Information Services) and Uzo Anucha (School of Social Work, York University).
The PG has a Youth-Led Committee that has been made up of youth PG members (youth interns, students, community partners, etc) and is co-chaired by two youth collaborators (community and academic) - Antonius Clarke (Friends in Trouble) and Alex Lovell (Queens University). The Youth-Led Committee ensures that the youth on the PG have a 'safe-space' to caucus and then raise issues at the larger PG.
All project team members and partners belong to at least one of five Research Theme Working Groups - Youth Assets Survey; Youth Voices; Youth Education & Employment Strategies; Reframing Discourse; and Evaluation and Monitoring. Each Working Group is co-chaired by a university and community team member.
Reporting to the PG is a Research Advisory Committee that includes the co-chairs of the Partnership Group; Youth-Led Committee; Five Research Theme Working Groups; and Knowledge Mobilization and Communications Committee. The Research Advisory Committee is co-chaired by Mwarigha Mwarigha (Toronto Community Housing) and Karen Swift (School of Social Work, York University). The Research Advisory Committee ensures that there is an avenue for the Research Theme Working Groups to be informed of each other's research activities and to provide an opportunity for some integration of all research activities. The Research Advisory Co-Chairs are responsibile for coordinating the overall research agenda.
A Knowledge Mobilization and Communications Committee, co-chaired by community and academic project team members, ensures that the research projects are engaging in effective dissemination and communication throughout the research process. The Co-Chairs are Sue Levesque (York University) and Janet Mosher (York University).
