Ali Asgary, Ph.D.
Dr. Ali Asgary joined the Emergency Management Program in July 2005. He teaches “Fundamentals of Emergency Management” and “Advanced Disaster & Emergency Management”. Prior to joining York University, he was assistant professor at the department of Applied Disaster and Emergency Studies at Brandon University, Manitoba, Canada. Dr. Asgary holds a BA degree in Economics, MA in Economics and Development Planning, and has received his Ph.D. in Urban and Regional Planning from the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne, United Kingdom. His research interests include: urban disaster mitigation, business continuity planning, economic assessment of disaster risk mitigation measures, disaster economics, post-disaster recovery and reconstruction, Agent Based Modeling, GIS and Virtual Technology applications in disaster management.
