Welcome to this mini course
and
good
luck!
On the first day we talked about the
classification and characteristics of SNe.
There are Type Ia supernovae which are thermonuclear explosions of
white dwarfs. They originate
in binary systems where a white dwarf accretes material from a larger
star or even cannibalizes another
white dwarf in the system. Click
here for some of the latest news.
Then there are Type Ib/c, Type IIp, Type IIn and Type IIb, all of them
core
collapse explosions of
massive stars.

We looked at spectra and light curves and
other
characteristics. Then we
looked at the explosion mechanism in more detail. Click
here for a computer simulation.
