With many thanks for information from Mike Broderick and Shannon Ernst
There were some runner up awards in the eighties but Bethune did not become a real threat for the Torch until the 90's.
1991-92 and 1992-93
Bethune won the award for runner up. In both of those years, it came down to the last sport (Broomball) and both years Bethune lost in the final to Stong which allowed Stong to win the Torch. Those years, Bethune was directed by Ian Sanderson.
1993-94
Darryl Shaw and Jarrod Pare were the Bethune Athletic Council President and Vice President but despite their best efforts this was definitely a disappointing year for Bethune as they finished fourth for in the Torch Race.
1994-95
Bethune College won its first ever Torch Championship. Cheri Tredree (nee Hammond) was the President and Chris Vaughn was the Vice President of that council.
1995-96
Mike Broderick was President of Bethune Athletic Council. Bethune had a good year, equaling all of the numbers of the last year but Stong was better and they won the Torch by a narrow margin.
1996-97
Mike Broderick was once again Bethune Athletic Council President and this time Bethune was absolutely dominant. Despite the Torch Race being close at the half way mark, the council took it home and won by more than 17 000 points. Bethune also won 32 plaques including all three of the divisional championships.
1997-2001
This could be considered some of the 'quieter' years for Bethune. However, in 1998 Bethune was runner-up. 1999 proved to be a very tough race. Bethune placed 3rd but only lost by a very narrow margin. There were only a couple thousand points separating 1st from 3rd.
2001-02
The Bethune Council brought back the glory. The Council was the best that has existed in Bethune for a few years and Bethune students in general were aware of what the Torch is and how important it is to win. Shannon Ernst was President and Matt Boody Vice President, and many others showed the leadership necessary to win.
2002-03, 2003-04
We win it again, and again!
2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07
Runner Up. Close but no cigar.
2007-08, 2008-09
Bethune wins the Torch again, and again!
2009-10, 2010-11
Runner Up. Close but no cigar.
