Hello fellow Bethuner!
Welcome to York University! Bethune College is also excited to welcome you to York’s intramural program where you can play sports competitively or just for fun!
With over 25 sports to choose from not only will you find the right tier for you to play in but it will be a great way to meet new people, stay healthy & fit, form study groups that work with the same schedule as you do, meet new people from other colleges and making memorable moments during your time in university!
Although there is a tier 1 for the more competitive athletes and a tier 2 for the students who would just like to have fun, both tiers contribute to Bethune’s race for the torch! The torch is basically the overall college intramural championship, the pride and joy of a college, the Stanley Cup. Just winning an intramural game is insufficient in gaining the torch; participation plays a huge factor as well. Hence whether you are a tier 1 or tier 2 player, it will be a fun way to contribute to the best college on campus! Bethune has had the pleasure of being on top in the intramural scene for a few years now including winning the torch multiple times in the last decade, and this was made possible solely because of students like you!
So what does it cost you to play as a Bethune student? NOTHING! All the ice time, court time, field time and equipment are paid for by the Bethune Athletic Committee. All you need to do is bring yourself, your YU-card (with Bethune affiliation) and the drive to win! So whatever your sport may be, come on out and have fun! All you have to do to get involved in the program is to fill out an application in your frosh kit or drop by room 122A in Bethune to get an application form.
The Bethune Athletic Committee (BAC) is a group of students like you and I, who help put together and manage teams, send out schedules, and promote the intramural program to the Bethune Community. We also hold events and social gatherings to help bring the Bethune Athletes more closely together. We are always looking for new members so feel free to contact us by emailing bac@yorku.ca.
If you have any questions, feel free to drop us a line at bac@yorku.ca or come by our office at 122A Bethune College.
I wish you all the best for your upcoming year and hope to see all your faces out on the field, court, and rink representing Bethune College
