COURSE DESCRIPTION
PLEASE NOTE SPECIAL DATES FOR THIS COURSE -
SEE COURSE CONTENT BELOW    THIS IS A STUDIO COURSE

This year, Practicum: Performance in Schools, will provide an exploration of the uses of video for the teaching of practical theatre skills. The class will use storytelling, improvisations and other group activities to examine a theme. Some of the results of this work will be videotaped. We will focus on exploring creation mythologies, and will look at different narratives from world cultures. The course is planned to culminate in the classą participation in an international drama and theatre education videoconference. Because the time of the course is very short, it will be extremely concentrated. Therefore, attendance is not only vital, but mandatory. Some preparatory work will be required.
Students will need to bring to the first class:

A written description of a creation story, that is drawn from your culture
A written description of a creation story, that is drawn from another culture.
Do consider how the two stories you select are connected.
Be prepared to present a storytelling session for your piece.
Collect images for use in hypertext web project - SEE ASSIGNMENTS SECTION FOR COMPLETE DETAILS

Students will be expected to research and re-tell creation myths with which they are most familiar, as well as to find dramatic images and texts (including props, costumes, photographs, stories, diaries, historical materials, etc.). Each student will be responsible for contributing to a class website that will be available. The purpose of this website is to both model and encourage theatre classes in other parts of the world to use the theatre or theatrical approaches to tell similar stories.

PLEASE NOTE: MATERIALS FEE: $20.00
