FACS 1900B Interdisciplinary research paper/critical work

Criteria for evaluation: we will use roughly the same criteria we used for the review, so be sure to revisit that assignment to see if there are specific areas you should work to improve.

*your topic's relevance to this course/understanding of assigned question

*understanding and proper documentation of the relevant material (proper referencing, bibliography etc.)

*overall coherence, including:
- an introduction which states your thesis and the structure of your paper
-logical movement from one section of your paper to the next
- a conclusion which follows from the arguments you make in the body of the paper

*quality and clarity of argument including coherent justification for the views you hold: this refers to your ability to provide ARGUMENTS that are sound and avoid common fallacies. This does NOT mean simply stating your position, opinions or feelings. It means being able to provide supporting evidence for those opinions and/or analyses of your experiences.

*originality and sense of play -- and use of original, concrete examples

*clarity of exposition: have you explained things in your own words; avoided obscurity as much as possible; avoided jargon?

*Presentation: style, spelling, grammar, etc.
A reminder: Your essay should be proof read for grammar and spelling, preferably be someone other than you, so that you submit error-free and polished work. As usual, do not simply rely on the spell-check feature on your computer. I often suggest to students that they read their work aloud before handing it in -- this process often helps to catch awkward constructions, run-on sentences, wordiness etc. Try it!
