Question

Anthropy writes “A game isn’t defined by being fun just as comics aren’t defined by being funny. A game is defined as an experience created by rules. ” The word ‘play’ and ‘game’ seem to have connotations of entertainment, leisure, and fun that we as individuals are already conditioned to believe. I wonder if it’s possible to shift this association of meaning to something more critical and serious. Can we forgo this established meaning in language and begin to accept different, more open and critical definitions of these words? Will accepting a broader definition support the idea of the possibility of games to create or influence social and cultural change?

“A game isn’t defined by being fun just as comics aren’t defined by being funny. A game is defined as an experience created by rules. ”
