Jordan H. Green

Alumnus: BA Spec. Hons Philosophy, York University, 1996
I'm in love with what I do -- and I owe that love to York University. I wanted to be an actor when I started my studies in 1996 at York, or so I thought. Little did I really know I didn't know who I was, or what I really wanted to be. But York showed me the way -- by letting me take different courses, and with the diversity of social clubs and groups, I eventually stumbled into the campus newspaper's offices, and soon discovered who I was. I am an ace communicator. I'm a wordsmith. I have a passion for deep thought, and communicating those thoughts. Since those early days, I've put my self-discovery to good work. I've been a print and broadcast journalist, a corporate communications and marketing manager, and most recently I create learning programs for the big financial firms.

Ken Peglar
Retired teacher, Ontario Philosophy Teachers' Association
Careers: Dramaturge, Canadian Opera Company, professional musician, high school instrumental and visual art
teacher.
In 1995, a daring principal let me offer a philosophy course - one section. 155 students signed for it. And therein lies the tale. Many teenagers are deep thinkers. But addressing the truly big questions is problematic for them because they lack the tools to help them in their search. Philosophy is just what they need. I retired in 2008 after teaching for 33 years. Being a philosophy teacher was the most fun, by far.
