About the Event

Interested in a career working in sports or wellness? Want to meet York Alumni and other professionals working in diverse roles within this field?

Connect with professionals currently enjoying careers in sports, fitness and wellness, and get the inside scoop on what it's really like to work in this field. During this panel, professionals will share their personal career stories about breaking into the field, how their career paths took them from graduation to where they are now, what knowledge, skills and experience helped them succeed in their jobs and what types of opportunities are available in the field. The panel will be moderated by one of the Career Centre's team members and followed by an open forum where students will have an opportunity to ask the panelists their own questions.

Participating Panelists

Geoff Carson
Equipment Services Supervisor, York University Sport and Recreation
Alumnus: BSc Kinesiology, 2007

I have always been actively involved in sports and my passion for athletics has helped lead me to where I am today. My passion for sports led me to a degree in Kinesiology, where I also learned about the business side of sports and completed a certificate in Sports Administration. My current job as Equipment Services Supervisor allows me to work with student athletes every day and help pass on my passion for the sporting world to future generations.

Drew Miller
Fitness and Lifestyle Specialist, Phenomenal Fitness Bodies Inc
Alumnus: BA Sociology, 2004

It is truly a blessing to establish a career in the health and fitness industry, being able to do what I am strongly passionate about. I have been involved in sports all my life and understand the importance and beauty of a healthy body, mind, and spirit. It is an honour to work with people of all fitness levels to enhance their lives through physical fitness and personal growth and development. I love being able to get the best out of my clients' potential, and the excitement in their faces when they realize it. It is a remarkable feeling!

Jodi Rumack
Management Consultant

I always knew I loved fitness. I always knew I loved problem solving, leading others and making a difference. What I didn't know was that I could do all of these things at the same time. Through many years in a corporate fitness environment, I was able to hone my skills, which eventually led me to starting my own business. As a Management Consultant, specializing in fitness, I have the privilege of helping others achieve their goals in the fitness industry through strategic planning and execution. Every step I have taken throughout my career has led me to where I am today, and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Jillian Svensson
Sports Marketing, Corporate Sponsorship & Charity Professional, Maple Leaf Sports + Entertainment Ltd. (formerly)
Alumna: BA Kinesiology, 2000

I have been very fortunate to work in various capacities in the world of professional sports. From starting out in Fan Services, to managing Raptors players, to coordinating events with the Maple Leafs, to overseeing a multi-million dollar fundraising portfolio, sports has afforded me the opportunity to harness its power to positively influence my community.
