Participating Panelists:

Anne Crozier, Assistant Lecturer, York University

Andrea Meghie, CNS, St Michael's Hospital

I have been in nursing for over 18years. The adventure started with the successful completion of a nursing certificate from Humber College . My first job was at Baycrest geriatric centre. I felt I was not challenged enough and moved on to orthopedic surgery. As nursing has it ups and down I was bumped and relocated to a unit that I continues to challenge me. The Heart and Vascular program was where I found my niche. I needed a certificate for critical and coronary care to function effectively and efficiently in my new unit. The certificate did not seem enough and after a break to have three wonderful children I went back to school for a Hons degree in nursing followed shortly by a MSN. The graduate degree gave me an opportunity to fulfill another dream, facilitate nursing student as they journey through the nursing program as well as partner with novice and experience in the H&V program. In Feb. 2007 I was appointed the role of CNS. I am discovering all the challenges and excitements of this role. My roles as CNS at SMH and as CD at York have been very satisfying.

Khelesh Persaud, RN/ Nursing Instructor, Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in the Coronary Care Unit/ York University

My name is Khelesh I am a York nursing instructor. I have been a nurse for almost 20 years now. I started my nursing career in Guyana but did not continue on with nursing once I came toCanada. After 10 years working as a dental assistant/office manager I felt part of me was missing. I wanted to care for people. So after 10 years I went back to nursing school as an adult student with a family to care for, sometimes it was a challenge but I wanted to return to nursing so I tried very hard to overcome all obstacles to get there.

Today I am proud of my achievements I am an RN at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in the Coronary Care Unit (CCU), Nursing instructor at York University, completed my BScN, MScN and working towards my PhD all as an adult student.
