Academic Requirements: Business & Public Administration Internship Program

Students interested in participating in the Business & Public Administration Internship Program (BPAIP) must be Honours Bachelor of Administrative Studies students specializing in Management, Marketing or Finance; Honours Bachelor of Arts Business & Society students; Honours Bachelor of Arts Communication Studies students; Honours Bachelor of Arts Economics students; or Honours Bachelor of Public Administration students in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, and meet the academic requirements below.

All BPAIP Students:

  • Be enrolled as a full-time Honours Degree student.
  • Have not been absent for more than two consecutive years as a full-time student from their Honours or Specialized Honours Degree studies.
  • Have a minimum of 30 credits remaining to complete their Honours or Specialized Honours Degree upon enrollment in the Internship Program and a minimum of 15 credits remaining by the time they begin their internship (i.e. enroll in the Internship Work Term Course). Note: Once accepted into the program, students typically study full-time for at least one academic term while applying and interviewing for internship positions.
  • Once their internship position has been secured, students are required to register in the Internship Work Term course (i.e. zero credit) for each internship work term to a maximum of four work terms (i.e. 16 months) and pay the associated fee.

Administrative Studies:

Marketing Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed AP/ADMS 2200 3.00 and AP/ADMS 3220 3.00, and at least 6.00 Marketing credits at the 3000- or 4000-level.

Management Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed AP/ADMS 2200 3.00, AP/ADMS 2500 3.00, AP/ADMS 2510 3.00, AP/ADMS 2600 3.00, AP/ADMS 3530 3.00 and AP/ADMS 3930 3.00, and at least 3.00 additional ADMS credits at the 3000-level. Completion of AP/ADMS 3351 3.00 is strongly recommended.

Finance Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed at least 9.00 Finance credits at the 3000-level or higher.

Administrative Studies students specializing in Accounting may be eligible for the PAIP.

Business & Society Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have completed AP/ECON 1000 3.00 and AP/ECON 1010 3.00, and at least 12.00 BUSO credits at the 3000-level.
  3. Have completed at least one 3.00 credit course in statistics, preferably SC/MATH 1352 3.00.

Communication Studies Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed at least 9.00 AP/COMN credits at the 3000-level.

Economics Students (including Financial and Business Economics):

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed AP/ ECON 2300 3.00, AP/ ECON 2350 3.00, AP/ ECON 2400 3.00, AP/ ECON 2450 3.00, AP/ ECON 2500 3.00, AP/ECON 3210 3.00 or AP/ECON 3480 3.00 or AP/ECON 3500 3.00, and at least 6.00 additional ECON credits at the 3000-level.

Public Administration Students:

  1. Have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 6.0 or better.
  2. Have successfully completed AP/PPAS 3190 6.00 and AP/PPAS 3300 6.00.

Calculating your GPA

  1. Multiply the total credit for each course by the grade point.
  2. Add up the total number of credits.
  3. Add up the total grade points.
  4. Divide the total grade points by the total credits.
