Job Search Workshops

Have a specific job in mind but not sure how to get there? The Job Search workshops are designed to provide you with the skills to write an amazing resumé and cover letter, wow them at your next interview, make connections in your field, and find a position that meets your needs.

94% of students who evaluated the Job Search workshops reported an increase in confidence and 98% would recommend these workshops to a friend.

Identifying Skills and Accomplishments workshop

Being able to identify and articulate your skills is an essential part of a successful job search. This introductory workshop is a great starting point for all other Job Search workshops.

  • Identify the key skills that you have to offer.
  • Learn how to articulate your skills through accomplishments that you can use in you resumé, cover letter and during your interview.

You may book a 30-minute, one-on-one Resumé or Cover Letter feedback session. Bring a hard copy of either your resumé or cover letter to be reviewed by a Job Search Advisor. Please call the Career Centre at 416-736-5351 or visit us in person in Suite 202, McLaughlin College to book your one-on-one appointment. The receptionist will verify that you have attended either the Resumé Writing workshop or Cover Letter Writing workshop prior to booking an appointment for you.

Resumé S.O.S. Session workshop (Bring your Resume!)

Have a job application due A.S.A.P. and can't make it to the Resumé Writing workshop?
Bring a hard copy of your resumé to this one hour small group session and

  • Get some quick tips and feedback on your resumé so that you can get your applications out on time.
  • Give and receive peer feedback and increase your chances of landing the job you want.

Please note: Due to the condensed and collaborative nature of this workshop, please ensure that you are able to commit to the following before you register:

  • arrive ON TIME (late participants will not be admitted after 5 minutes)
  • bring a HARD COPY of your resumé
  • stay for the ENTIRE one hour session

In addition, this session will NOT be considered a prerequisite for a one-on-one Resumé or Cover Letter Feedback session.

Cover Letter Writing workshop

Do you know how to write a concise and interesting cover letter that invites employers to read your resumé?  

  • Create a cover letter tailored and personalized to the position to which you are applying.
  • Make your cover letter interesting and easy to read to maximize interest.

This workshop is specially designed for Masters and Doctoral level students.

  • Understand the difference between a CV and a resumé
  • Learn how to translate your academic CV into a resumé suitable for a non-academic job search.

Put your interview skills to the test, and practice answering interview questions in a fun, fast-paced environment alongside your peers.

  • Experience interviews from multiple points of view - as interviewee, interviewer and observer.
  • Get and give feedback on how to craft and deliver winning answers to common interview questions.
