Participate in the TASTE Program as an Alumni

TASTE lunches happen year round during the Fall/Winter and Summer terms.

TASTE Alumni

Thank you for your interest in volunteering for the TASTE (Take A Student To Eat) Program. The TASTE Program is a partnership between the York University Career Centre and Alumni Relations. TASTE offers students an opportunity to talk with a York alumna/us about career-related interests. The program pairs two students with a York grad over an informal lunch setting.

Requirements of alumni participants

Only York alumni are eligible to participate in TASTE. Participating in TASTE doesn't mean you have to have all of the answers about a particular career area or industry. We only ask that you be willing to share your personal career experiences and knowledge with students and new grads (up to 2 years after graduation) and answer, to the best of your ability, questions about your job, industry, sector and/or organization. You must also agree to the following:

  • choosing a venue for lunch (preferably in the GTA so that students can travel easily)
  • paying for lunch for two students
  • completing the TASTE online application form which includes providing a bio for the TASTE web page
  • completing an evaluation of the TASTE program and your experience

Requirements of student participants

Only York students and new grads (up to two years after graduation) are eligible to participate in TASTE. Students must complete an online form and include a description of why they chose to have lunch with a particular York alumna/us and what they hope to gain from their TASTE experience. They are also required to attend one of two professional etiquette workshops prior to their lunch appointment. Student will be asked to complete an evaluation of their TASTE experience.

Matching Process

Your name and bio as well as the date you are willing to take two students to lunch will appear on the TASTE website as per the information you provide in the TASTE Alumni Participation Form. If you have also agreed to provide a company tour, the time of the company tour will be posted on the website. Students will complete an online form indicating the name of the alumni with whom they would like to have lunch and the reasons for choosing that particular alumni. The Career Centre will verify that the student has completed the eligibility requirements to participate in TASTE. Once the students' have completed all eligibility requirements, you will receive an e-mail notification from the Career Centre confirming your lunch date, location and the names of the two students with whom you will be meeting. Please note that York University does not screen student participants in the TASTE Program and assumes no responsibility over the quality or outcome of your participation in the TASTE Program.
