Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women

Elspeth Heyworth Centre for Women is a nonprofit, charitable organization that has been meeting the growing needs of its culturally diverse community for over fifteen years, empowering newcomer women and their families to become participating members of Canadian society. Elspeth Heyworth Centre maintains strong relationship and program consistency with women of diverse communities.

Elspeth Heyworth Centre offers a variety of programs and services that assist immigrant/refugee women to adjust, adapt and integrate into the community. Elspeth Heyworth Centre offers a variety of programs and services that assist immigrant/refugee women to adjust, adapt and integrate into the community. These include:

  • Settlement Assistance
  • Employment Counseling
  • Abuse Crisis Services
  • Interpretation and translation in over 80 languages to health/public and private sectors with a roster of over 600 interpreters
  • Health related programs & workshops
  • Information sessions on Canadian lifestyle and culture
  • Groups sessions on civic engagement
  • On-the-spot abuse crisis services for women
  • Recreational and relaxation programs for seniors
  • Celebrations of cultural festivals
  • Partnership and collaborations with other organizations to share, receive and contribute information for overall services for needy immigrants
  • Provision of information about South Asian culture to research departments at York University, George Brown College and University of Toronto
  • After-school programs for young children of new immigrants
  • Providing work experience to the students of various schools and universities
  • Recruiting and hiring volunteers to uphold the dignity of volunteerism in Canada
  • Self-employment training & counseling
  • Job fairs for seniors
  • Advocacy on issues facing young girls

Recruiting for: Advertising, Computer Tech, people working with seniors, Marketing, Proposal Writing, Fundraiser, Research, Programmer and Event planner

Skills Required: Schooling along with some experience. If volunteer does not have any experience we will have positions for them.
