Volunteer Fair 2011

Social Services Network (SSN) was established to bridge the gap and since its inception has continued to develop strong functional partnerships with the diverse community groups, community centers and mainstream agencies to deliver appropriate culturally and linguistically sensitive programs.

SSN serves the widely diverse South Asian community that represents numerous cultures, languages and faith groups. In 2005, Statistics Canada reported that by the time Canada celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2017, more than half of Greater Toronto Area (GTA) population will be of non-European origin. People of South Asian origin will make up the largest visible group. South Asians remained the largest visible minority group in Ontario in 2006. Its population of 794,170 accounted for 28.9% of all visible minorities in the province.

SSN has developed a unique service delivery model whereby the services are delivered directly to the community at their places of worship and/or community meeting places. This distinctive approach has had a significant cost effective outcome resulting in an increased community awareness of programs and services that are available for them.
