About Physical, Sensory and Medical Disability Services (PSMDS)
York University has policies in place to ensure all students have equal opportunity to attain their educational goals. If you are a student with a physical, sensory or medical disability you may be eligible for academic accommodations. Goals of PSMDS
- Provide 'reasonable' academic accommodations to students with physical, sensory and medical disabilities to help maximize their educational experience
- Encourage students with physical, sensory and medical disabilities to become as independent as possible by familiarizing them with university policies and procedures and campus resources.
- Increase awareness in the campus community about students with physical, sensory and medical disabilities
Student Eligibility
- Part-time and full-time undergraduate or graduate students registered at York University and living with a physical, sensory or medical disability requiring support related to their education. Physical, sensory and medical disabilities include, but are not limited to:
- Physical disabilities include mobility disabilities, medical/health-related disabilities, and acquired brain injury.
- Mobility (e.g. quadriplegia, paraplegia, muscular dystrophy, etc.)
- Medical (e.g. epilepsy, migraines, heart conditions, cancer, HIV/AIDS, chronic pain, etc)
- Brain Injury
- Deaf, deafened or Hard of Hearing
- Blind or low vision
Registration Package (download the 75kb pdf). In order to register with PSMDS, students must complete the two part registration package. Completed packages can be returned to N108 Ross Building or faxed to 416-650-8068. Intake appointments will be set once the documentation has been reviewed by our office.
