Who we are

On Nov 30/05 a number of individuals met in Toronto and decided to launch the 30th Anniversary Committee to remember events related to the March 24, 1976 coup d’etat in Argentina..

We are an ad-hoc group made up of Canadians and Argentineans interested in recovering the historical memory related to that crucial period in Argentina’s past. To that end, we have organized a number of activities to honour the victims of state terrorism and to raise awareness about the connections between what happened in 1976 and current events in Argentina.

Given the different backgrounds of our volunteers, it is quite a challenge to provide an accurate definition of our committee. We consider that the below concepts broadly explain and provide an outline of our work. We consider ourselves:

Independent: We are not affiliated to any political party, and receive no governmental aid.
Progressive: We are interested in promoting social justice, and oppose any type of discrimination.
Non-Profit: All funds raised by the group will be dedicated to covering expenses related to our activities.
Non-Sectarian: Decisions are made in open meetings, either by consensus or by majority votes.
