POLICY AND PLANNING COMMITTEE
(Extract from Report to Faculty Council - [FC-72-73-48]
1. Is responsible for academic policy and long-term policy;
2. Is responsible for academic resource allocation;
3. Considers proposals for introduction of new programmes, and for modification or abolition of existing programmes;
4. Acts in an advisory capacity to the Principal on the annual College budget.
Notes:
The Policy and Planning Committee focuses primarily on academic policy and planning but since it is difficult to consider academic policy without taking into account its administrative and financial implications, the Committee is charged also with responsibility to considering these areas. It defines Glendon's objectives and draws up a five-year plan for the College consonant with that of the University as a whole.
The Committee has a particular responsibility for broad resource allocation, both in the long and the short term. In this capacity it reports to College Council. For detailed short-term resource allocation, especially for annual budget, it acts in an advisory capacity to the Principal.
"Programme" is defined as something broader than a course or a group of courses. It would include a new discipline to be undertaken by an existing department (e.g. Spanish), a new academic department or division (e.g. Psychology), a new degree programme (e.g. the Ordinary Degree major in Canadian Studies), or changes in the requirements for an existing degree programme (e.g. the reduction from six to five in the number of courses required for a major in English in the Ordinary Programme.
