Announcements |
The main registration period is in August. New members pay their deposit and
membership at this time, and complete a registration package including forms and
policies which must be read and signed. Confirmation of requested schedules will
occur as soon as possible - however, scheduling for a part-time centre such as
ours is complex as we must monitor the numbers of toddlers/pre- schoolers, the
staff to child ratio, and so on. Successive registrations occur near the end of
each term. Continuing members are asked to complete schedule requests for the
next four months, while those members who are not continuing must provide two
weeks notice for their parent deposit to be returned. Important Forms: All relevant forms (eg. medical) should be signed and given to the Coordinator before any care can be provided. Check out our Forms Section for more information. Introductions & Preliminary Visits: It is very important that you visit the Centre with your child/ren before he/she attends on their own. This is so your child will become familiar with the environment and the staff, and will then feel much more comfortable and secure when left with Centre staff. We strongly suggest two or three short visits where you remain with your child, or leave for a short period and return. There will be no charge for these preliminary visits; however, we do request that you let us know when you would like to come before visiting. Transition Policy: Transitioning into a Childcare setting can often be stressful for parents and children. At the Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre we strive to create and maintain a stable, nurturing environment for each child in care. Strategies are designed to provide an environment that supports the child\parent\caregiver relationship. When a child enters the Lee Wiggins Childcare Centre, staff members are introduced to the parent(s) and child(ren). The staff then introduces children to the new arrivals in hopes that they will feel accepted and comfortable. Experience has shown us that transition time is appropriate for most children. A schedule has been developed to ease a child's transition into a new environment. This schedule is a guideline for parents and staff to follow. However, we realize the necessity for being flexible as each child has different needs, and parents also have other commitments. We strive to meet these individual needs whenever possible. This method helps your child to gain the trust that you will come back. Your children may cry and we understand that it is difficult to leave under these circumstances. Our experience shows us that it is best to be consistent and to follow through. So if you say you are going to leave it is best to wait until you are ready to go, then follow through. It can be confusing for a child to hear you are going to leave and then you never do. Staff will always be available to assist you and your child with you transition times. Transition Schedule: Day 1 Parent \ child arrives and stays at the centre for approximately 1hour. The parent is encouraged to participate with their child and the group. Day 2 Parent \ child arrives at the centre and stays for approximately one hour. After 45 minutes or so the parent is encouraged to say good bye to the child. A staff will help with this transition, so it is important to tell a staff when you are ready. The parent may go for 10 to 15 minutes. Day 3 Parent and child again stay for approximately hour and the parent is encouraged to say good bye and leave for 30 minutes. Day4 Parent and child again stay for approximately one hour and the parent is encouraged to leave for 45 minutes. |
