Gene Desfor, Jennefer Laidley, and Kat Cizek Receive Merits from the 2012 Hertiage Toronto Awards

Members and partners of the CITY institute recently received commendation for their work from the 2012 Heritage Toronto Awards.

In the category of book, Gene Desfor and Jennefer Laidley (Faculty of Environmental Studies) received Honorable Mention for their 2011 publication “Reshaping Toronto’s Waterfront”.

“This book draws on insights from a variety of academic disciplines to explore the past and present of Toronto’s waterfront. Fifteen contributors interpret the ways environmental, economic and political processes have combined to shape the city’s waterfront. By analyzing the dramatic transformation of the waterfront during the past one hundred and fifty years, this book also offers insight into the complexity of city building.”

In the category for media, Kat Cizek (NFB) received an Award of Merit for her interactive website and documentary, “Highrise- One Millionth Tower”.

“An interactive website and short documentary, Highrise–One Millionth Tower invites visitors to explore how participatory urban design can transform spaces, places and minds. Over one thousand post-war highrises comprise part of Toronto’s architectural legacy, and many are now in a state of disrepair. This project had a group of Kipling highrise residents, together with architects, re-envision their homes in a story that unfolds in a virtual environment.”

Please join CITY in congratulating Gene, Jennefer and Kat for their outstanding work.
