Claire Wootten MA (York);TTP (NBS)
Assistant Professor: Ballet Technique, Dance Education, and Mentoring
Following completion of studies with the Professional Division at the School of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Claire danced professionally with the Alberta Ballet Company. She is a graduate of the Teacher Training Program at Canada's National Ballet School and has taught and adjudicated extensively throughout Canada. Her credits as an educator include the Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, the Alberta Ballet School, Dance Nova Scotia, the British Columbia Festival of the Arts, and L’École de danse de Québec. Years of studio-based, student-centred practice have resulted in research interests that include mentoring, dance feminism, and radical dance pedagogies. Claire has served on the Board of Directors of CORPS de Ballet International and was honoured with the CORPS Board of Directors' Award for Outstanding Service. She is proud to be serving on the Board of Dance Media Group/Groupe Danse Média, publisher of Canada's national dance magazine, The Dance Current. As a freelance rehearsal director, Claire discovered her strong affinity for contemporary dance and now, very happily, makes her home there.
