York Remote Printing

York Remote Printing allows you to print to publicly accessible campus printers from your laptop or desktop computer, either:

  • wirelessly on-campus using AirYork, or
  • with an internet connection on-campus or in residence

Requirements

  • Microsoft Windows XP SP3 with Internet Explorer 6.x/Mozilla Firefox 3.x/Safari 4.x.
  • Microsoft Windows Vista SP2 with Mozilla Firefox 3.x/Safari 4.x
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.5 "Leopard" with Mozilla Firefox 3.x/Safari 4.x
  • To use York Remote Printing, you need to have an Acadlabs account

Unsupported

  • Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8
  • Microsoft Windows 7
  • Apple Mac OS X 10.6 "Snow Leopard"
  • 64-bit Operating Systems

Install York Remote Printing printer client (iPrint)

(Vista users: you will need to download and install the following two patches before installing the York Remote Printing client: KB932206, KB941542)

For Windows Vista users click on this link: Install the York Remote Printing client (iPrint) for Vista to begin the installation process.
For Windows XP users
click on this link: Install the York Remote Printing client (iPrint) to begin the installation process.
For Mac users click on this link: Install the York Remote Printing client (iPrint) for Macs to begin the installation process.

When prompted to login, enter your Acadlabs username and password. Download and run the nipp.exe file. Follow the instructions to install the iPrint client. You must restart your computer when complete to continue with the driver installation.

Download the York Remote Printing printer drivers

From the following list below, click on the printer driver file (.exe) for each of the printers to which you want to print. For each file, if the login screen appears enter your Acadlabs username and password. When the screen appears with "Do you want to install it now", click "YES". The installation may take a minute or more. When a window appears with "Printer ipp://... has been installed successfully", click on "OK". Your computer is now set up to use that printer.

Printing to a York Remote Printing service printer

Once you have installed the York Remote Printing (iPrint) client and printer drivers that you require, you may now print from your computer:

Select the print option in the program you are using e.g. File > Print

From the printer menu, select the printer name (eg: WSC-BW-hp9050 on WIRELESS_PRINTING) and click OK. Your document has now been submitted to the print release station for that printer.

Go to the print release station where you have submitted your print job. Login using your PPY login information. Select your document. Click on the Continue button. Swipe the YU card when prompted. Click on "Pay and Print" button. Your print job will appear on the printer by the release station.


FAQs

Q1. When installing the printer drivers, the message appears



A1. You must restart your computer after installing the iPrint client software and then install the printer driver(s).

Q2. Everytime I print, it prompts me to login. Is there a way I can set the password for the iPrint client to be remembered?
A2. Yes. When you are prompted for the password, there is an option that you may check to remember the password.

Q3. I’ve changed my ACADLABS password but I have the old password saved in the iPrint client. How do I set it to the new password?
A3. Right-click on the iPrint client icon in the system tray. Select iPrint Settings. Click on the Passwords tab. Click on the Clear All Passwords button to purge the old information. Click on OK. The next time you are prompted to type in the password for the Remote Printing, type your Acadlabs information and click on the option to remember the password.

Q4. How long do I have, after I print, to get to the release station before it is automatically deleted?
A4. Currently, there is a 1.5 hours limit to release your job at the release station from the moment of printing your job. If it is not printed before the 1.5 hours, the job will be deleted from the print queue and unavailable to be released at the release station. You will have to re-submit your job.
