Certificate Requirements

Admission

By enrolling in the General Certificate Program in Refugee and Migration Studies, students registered in undergraduate degree programs in the Faculties of Arts, Atkinson,   Environmental Studies, Education, and Glendon College should formally focus their studies in the area of refugees and migration. The General Certificate will be awarded concurrently with the B.A., B.Ed., B.E.S., or B.Sc. degrees for which they are registered, provided both sets of requirements are completed. Please remember to submit your application form to graduate to the Registrar office with a clear indication that you are also eligible to graduate with the Certificate. [The form is only available in the Registrar office.]

The Certificate is DIRECTLY awarded to the student by York University and the Centre for Refugee Studies has no authority to issue the Certificate directly to the student.

Unless otherwise stated or agreed upon between each of the participating Faculties and the Center Refugee Studies, students registered for the Certificate will be advised and have their progress monitored by the Education Coordinator at the Centre for Refugee Studies, or by a Faculty member from the respective Faculty who agrees to serve as an advisor or designate. In consideration of the intended interdisciplinary nature of the Certificate, advisors will guide students in making course selections to result in reasonable exposure to various disciplines participating in the Certificate Program.

Note #1: Student graduates of Seneca College who are recipients of the Social Service Worker - Immigrants and Refugees Diploma can apply for advanced standing for the CRS General Certificate.

Note #2: enrolment in the Certificate does not guarantee enrollment  in courses offered by each Department.
