Candidates are invited to apply for a one-year, nonrenewable, postdoctoral fellowship. The successful candidate will have expertise in research on topics related to the theme of “ecologies,” writ large. Preferred candidates will have training in anthropology and/or history of science and/or science & technology studies (STS), and will be well versed in feminist science studies. In addition candidates will have a background in one or more of the following specializations: multispecies anthropology, animal/plant studies, history of ecological sciences, or environmental studies.
Qualifications
PhD required at time of application. Applicants must have defended their dissertations by June 1, 2012.
Responsibilities
In addition to developing a research project on the theme, the successful applicant will work closely with Michelle Murphy (University of Toronto) and Natasha Myers (York University) to co-organize Toronto’s 5th Annual Technoscience Salon on the theme of Ecologies. More information about the Salon can be found at: http://technosalon.wordpress.com The successful applicant will also participate in monthly meetings with York University’s META Lab, a laboratory dedicated to experiments in anthropology and STS. In addition, the candidate will collaborate with members of the Plant Studies Collaboratory to organize events and develop new research trajectories. The candidate will be expected to participate actively in campus events during the 2012-2013 academic year. Salary
The salary will be commensurate with SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowships, and includes funds for research. This position is made possible by an Early Researcher Award from the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Innovation. The Institute for the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology invites applications for a one-year contractually-limited term appointment in the Philosophy of Science at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective July 1, 2012. Subject to a satisfactory review, the position will be renewed for one year.
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and research and will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in the philosophy of science, science and society and science and values. The successful candidate should be engaged in research and is expected to teach one half course at the graduate level in the philosophy of science. Evidence of some background or interest in the history of science would be welcomed. The successful candidate should have a PhD.
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
