Program Description
You are warmly invited to join us for our Institute for New Faculty Teaching at York (NFTY). The goal of NFTY is to enable you to get your teaching off to a good start with need-to know information about teaching and students at York, practical strategies to prepare your teaching efficiently and effectively, and an opportunity to meet experienced faculty noted for their teaching as well as other new and recently-hired colleagues.
The opening session for NFTY 2011-12 will be held on Friday, August 26, 2011 in TEL 1014. We will start at 9:30 (come early for coffee first!) and end at 3:30 p.m. You can expect a lively session, refreshments and lunch, and a very warm welcome to the teaching community at York University!
Previous NFTY participants have said:
- This program has been incredibly useful as an orientation to York University and teaching at York. Without it I suspect I would be floating around aimlessly discovering each resource in an ad hoc manner.
- This program was amazing! Extremely helpful, experienced and respectful staff and faculty. Thank You! Discussions with other faculty members were wonderful, because their excellent examples were inspirational for greater teaching.
- Hearing the range of approaches from various professors. It indicates that while there may be rules there are no limits on one’s creativity.
- Excellent sessions! Thank you. Facilitator experiences were invaluable too.
- This is an excellent program; I would definitely recommend it to other faculty members.
NFTY Fall/Winter Programming
We will be announcing other events in the NFTY series throughout the year. In the interim, you are welcome to contact the Centre with questions or concerns about course preparation, teaching and resources for teaching and learning at York.
Who is eligible?
The NFTY program is open to full-time faculty in the first three years of their appointment to York. If you are not eligible for NFTY, please join us for the Course Design Insititute instead.
Institute Resources
The resource kit used during the NFTY Summer Institute is designed to assist new faculty in their first few years of teaching. It includes links to student information, course planning, teaching strategies, evaluation and assessment, and evaluation of teaching.
