Graduate Teaching Associates 2011/12
Terms of Appointment
Work with Centre staff and faculty scholars/ associates to promote high quality teaching development through events planning, consultation with TAs, and publications:
Serve on the CST Advisory Board
Facilitate sessions on the University Teaching Practicum and answer general TA queries on the program

Organize and facilitate training and other sessions for Teaching Development Graduate Assistants 2011/2012

Organize and facilitate sessions for our annual TA Day, this year set for Thursday, August 25, 2011

Attend and facilitate the TA Conversations Lunch program 2011/2012
Coordinate and serve on the TA Day Proposal Review Committee

Design and deliver a discipline-specific or generalist session for TA DAY 2011
Assist with the coordination of a TA Conference, if required
Organize and facilitate sessions for a TA Conference, if required

Serve on the TA Conference Committee, if required

Identify sessions for, and assist in the coordination of, ‘refresher’ programming for intermediate and advanced TAs; delivering in Fall Reading week, October 8-14th, 2011
Facilitate and coordinate TA Focus groups, in review of the University Teaching Practicum
Identify session topics based on TA needs for inclusion in the Teaching & Learning Development Series
Research, develop and disseminate a variety of TA support documents
Participate in special projects, as required
Status of Appointment
The Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA) receives the equivalent of one TAship (comprised of one-half TA (Tutor 1) and one-half GA), for 270 hours of work throughout the Fall/Winter 2011/12 terms. The GTA receives full benefits under the CUPE 3903 contract (dental, drug, vision, LTD) and accrues 2 Type 2 units of applicable prior experience (Unit 2 seniority). Up to two full positions are funded by the Vice-President Academic, the Faculty of Graduate Studies and CUPE 3903, and are administered by the Centre for the Support of Teaching.
Eligibility
These positions are open to any eligible Unit 1 CUPE 3903 member with a minimum of two years’ teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Criteria for Selection
The Selection Committee will look for evidence of excellence in teaching, commitment to TA development and to the improvement of teaching and learning at York, and previous experience in supporting and coordinating programs.

Your letter should describe your previous involvement in the development of teaching and learning and highlight your leadership in: improvement of teaching and student learning; design and implementation of programs and events; communication, mentoring and collaborative work.
