Faculty Associate 2008/09 at the Centre for the Support of Teaching
Applications are invited for Faculty Associate positions at the Centre for the Support of Teaching (CST) for the 2008/2009 academic year. Faculty Associates work with the CST and a community of affiliated faculty and graduate students. This community engages in educational development projects to enhance the student learning experience at York. Faculty Associates are required to submit a report on their activities to the Academic Director of the CST upon completion of their term.
CST priorities for 2008 - 2009 include the development and dissemination of teaching, learning and assessment strategies to enhance students' academic experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Learning through research/inquiry
- Graduate education and supervision
- The fulfillment of areas identified in the OCAV Degree Level Expectations Guidelines
- The effective integration of technology into teaching and learning
Terms of Appointment
- Release time equivalent to one-half or one-full course for Fall/Winter 2008/2009
- Requests for release time up to an equivalent of two full course releases will be considered
Eligibility
- Faculty Associate positions are open to full-time faculty members at York University with a demonstrated commitment to improving teaching and learning.
- We warmly encourage applications from faculty who have not previously held a Faculty Associate position and from members of Faculties which have not been represented recently.
Application Procedure
- Applicants should include the following information:
- Name, department/division/school, Faculty, office address, office telephone, e-mail address;
- Identify the priority area that interests you and explain why;
- Provide a brief description of your project, outlining how you anticipate advancing the priority, including key objectives, related activities and anticipated outcomes;
- An itemized summary of your previous involvement in the development of teaching and learning; and
- The names and campus telephone numbers of two referees whom the Selection Committee may contact.
Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee comprised of the Academic and Associate Directors of the CST, and a member of the CST Advisory Board. Selection will be based on the potential impact of the project in improving teaching and learning and its contribution to the University's overall objective of enhancing the student experience.

Graduate Teaching Associates 2008/2009 at the Centre for the Support of Teaching
Terms of Appointment
Work with Centre staff and faculty associates to promote high quality teaching development through events planning, consultation with TAs, and publications:
- Assist with the coordination of the University Teaching Practicum and related activities
- Assist with the coordination of the Teaching Development Graduate Assistant Program and TDGA Orientation
- Assist with the coordination of the CST Teaching and Learning Development Series
- Assist with the development and maintenance of the TA and TDGA Moodle courses
- Assist with the coordination of the annual TA Day orientation
- Coordinate the TA edition of the CORE Newsletter
Status of Appointment
The Graduate Teaching Associate (GTA) receives the equivalent of one TAship (comprised of one-half TA (Tutor 1) and one-half GA), for 270 hours of work throughout the Fall/Winter 2008/2009 terms. The GTA receives full benefits under the CUPE 3903 contract (dental, drug, vision, LTD) and accrues 2 Type 2 units of applicable prior experience (Unit 2 seniority).
Up to two positions are funded by the Vice-President Academic, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, CUPE 3903, and are administered by the Centre for the Support of Teaching.
Eligibility
These positions are open to any eligible Unit 1 CUPE 3903 member with a minimum of two years' teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Criteria for Selection
The Selection Committee will look for evidence of excellence in teaching, commitment to TA development and to the improvement of teaching and learning at York, and previous experience in supporting and coordinating programs.

Your letter should describe your previous involvement in the development of teaching and learning and highlight your leadership in: improvement of teaching and student learning; design and implementation of programs and events; communication, mentoring and collaborative work.
