Tutorials for Course Directors on how to use Discussion forums on Moodle

  • A topic on the Moodle forums discussing best practices for grading discussions. Course Directors share the positives and negatives of various approaches, provide rubrics, etc.
  • Video: This tutorial shows how to set up a "single, simple discussion" forum type in Moodle 1.9.7. This forum type is especially useful for a focused discussion on a single course topic. You as the instructor set up the framework for the discussion in the forum introduction, and then students have the ability to respond to your initial question(s) or to each others' responses. All the discussion is contained in a single discussion thread. Five minutes.
  • A video tutorial demonstrates how to allow for interactive discussions in Moodle. Simple and clear.
  • A 10 minute video explaining Moodle forum basics such as, posting a topic, replying to topics, and so forth. Somewhat blurry picture quality. May be an older version.
  • The Open Learning at the Institute for Educational Development provides a page explaining forum basics with diagrams at every step.
  • Explains how to create forums, edit and reply to posts, grade forums, and more.
  • Short Moodle-related video tutorials. Clear and concise, with several videos.
  • A database for video tutorials not just restricted to Discussion Forums.
  • The PBL module has been developed to support all the steps of Problem Based Learning in a better way than the existing Moodle. This PBL module will help toexecute Problem Based Learning in both distance learning and blended learning scenario.’ Accompanied by documentation.
