Lessons from the Barn

"GENEROSITY"

Rusty

It's late November, and we've just had our first snow.
We've had several days of severe windchill, and high winds.
It is indeed the dying time, for all the greenery is dead,
and scavenging for anything to eat on the ground,
especially bugs is pretty much futile.

Today the sun is shining and the chickens are out
basking, scratching, sunning themselves. And there is little
Rusty, searching for bugs.

All of sudden, he starts making noises he's never made before
and is pecking in the same spot in the small area of driveway no longer
covered with snow. He went on for what seemed like forever.

Until.

Until the red hen, Penny noticed, came over, and found it.
There it was. A juicy bug.

And when she was done,
little Rusty slowly walked away.
