Dr. van Daalen-Smith is currently exploring the Mental Health impact of the Animal-Human Bond. During 2014-2015 she, Devon and Barkley are specifically looking at the Mental Health Impact of Service Dogs.

She is a member of the Canadian Institute for Military and Veteran Health Research where she will be exploring the mental health impact of service dogs for Canadian Veterans experiencing Post Traumatic Stress.
