Motion Perception


This diagram illustrates the movement directional selectivity of a visual neuron. The black arrows point in the direction of the stimulus (blue line) movement. Note that very little response is elicited by horizontal movement or in movement going up. But movement going down elicits a vigorous response as indicated by the frequency of actions potentials.
