Using SoundEdit 16
SoundEdit 16 is a digital sound recording and editing tool. It gives you
a range of techniques for editing any recorded sound, allowing you to
record, shift pitch, change tempo, filter, texture, combine and layer
sounds, based on digital samples of the sound.
The program uses a tape recorder metaphor with play, record, stop and
pause buttons as well as a recording level meter.
Editing Techniques
- zooming in and out
Two little triangular tabs in the upper-right and lower-left of the
window control how the sound is viewed.
- selecting
To select part of the sound for copy, cut, delete, effects... just
drag the mouse on the part of the sound you want to work with.
- fade in and fade out
When working with music, it is often useful to make the clip fade in
quickly and fade out quickly to avoid abrupt changes in volume. To fade
in, select the beginning of the sound and choose fade in in the effects
menu. Do the same for fade out with the end of the sound.
- change sample rate
As with images, it is often better to sample at a higher rate then
downsample. This can be done with the sound format item in the sound
menu.
- amplify
Another common operation is to change the volume of part of the sound
with the amplify command. Choose a part of the sound then select amplify
in the effects menu.
