When first using Director, it is much simpler to stick to 256 colours using the system palette. When working in PhotoShop, convert your images to indexed colour which is based on 256 colours. For example take the following image:

It is full colour. If we were to use it in Director we would need to convert it to indexed colour. The indexed colour dialogue gives us many options. There are two useful ones for us.

Option 1 - no dithering

Here each pixel is changed to the closest colour on the system palette:

Option 2 - dither

Here each area of pixels is converted to an area of pixels from the system palette.

If you can use no dithering but use whatever looks best. Of course, dithering works best for this example. In any case you must save the images as PICT File. File names are not important.
