Purpose
The Adrienne Pocock Memorial Award was established in honour of the late Adrienne Pocock, a conscientious environmentalist devoted to grassroots care and concern for her world.
The award will be given annually to graduate students in the Faculty of Environmental Studies to support resources and/or travel related to their fieldwork. The initial award in the winter of 2006 will be granted to a student whose area of focus encompasses the Canadian environment. Subsequently, preference will be given to students whose work incorporates consideration of Canada, children, animals or aboriginal issues in relationship to the environment.
Eligibility
The award is open to current graduate students at the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University, who are Canadian Citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, Ontario residents, and demonstrate financial need. Applicants must be in good academic standing at the time of application.
Criteria
The initial award in the winter of 2006 will be granted to a student whose area of focus encompasses the Canadian environment. Subsequently, preference will be given to students whose work incorporates consideration of Canada, children, animals or aboriginal issues in relationship to the environment. Applicants will be judged based on the quality of their fieldwork proposal, including objective(s), deliverables, scope, and potential contribution towards environmental research and/or issues more broadly. Incomplete or ineligible applications will not be considered.
Selection process
The award will be adjudicated by an approved subcommittee comprised of a minimum of two full-time faculty members.
