As an MES student, you can choose to follow course requirements that grant you professional certification through the Ontario Professional Planners Institute (OPPI) and recognized by the Canadian Institute of Planners (CIP).

What is planning?

Most people think of planning as a process that determines the future use of land – for housing, for industry, for parks or open space, etc. Planning in FES pushes the boundaries of the profession by stressing the relationship between society and space, and between land use and current policy debates on climate change, food security, water quality, Native rights, environmental justice, and a host of other issues. Emphasizing the integration of theory and practice, planning students have an opportunity to study with a wide array of environmental studies faculty.
