Admission to the BFA in Dance is based on your academic history as well as on the successful completion of a supplemental departmental audition. It is recommended applicants have several years of training in contemporary/modern and/or ballet.
The application process for this program involves two steps:
1. Application to York University
Students currently enrolled full-time in an Ontario secondary school apply through their guidance office.
All other candidates, including international applicants, may get an application from the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC).
International applicants are also encouraged to visit York University's website for international students.
Deadline to submit your application to York University: February 1, 2012.
2. Departmental Evaluation
Please note: If you are a graduate of the School of Toronto Dance Theatre's Professional Training Program or of Canada's National Ballet School's Teacher Training Program, you are not required to audition. However, you must still submit the supplemental application. Please contact the Department of Dance at 416-736-2100 ext. 22127.
The departmental evaluation process is as follows:
- Once you have received your York ID number, you must complete and submit an online supplemental application and $50 evaluation fee (payable by VISA, American Express or MasterCard). You are encouraged to submit your supplemental application as soon as possible to maximize your chance to receive an early offer of admission to the program.
The final submission deadline for supplemental applications is March 16.
- Please submit a 5” x 7” colour headshot that is representative of the way you will appear for your audition.
- You will be able to arrange an audition date once the Department has received your supplemental application and evaluation fee.
- During the audition, you will be asked to participate in a group class that uses elements from both contemporary/modern and ballet. Learn more about the audition.
- If distance precludes an on-campus evaluation, other arrangements can be made.
The average required for admission to York's dance program in recent years has been in the upper 70s for high school students and mid-70s for current university/college students.
