Carol Anderson is the author of a growing body of writing on Canadian dance and other cultural matters. Her most recent publication is Unfold: A Portrait of Peggy Baker (DCD Press/Presses 2008). She is an associate professor in York University's Dance Department.

Megan Andrews (MA, CMA) is a dance artist, teacher and freelance writer and editor. In 1998, she initiated the Canadian dance magazine, The Dance Current, where she continues to serve as publisher/founding editor. She teaches studio and seminar courses in the Dance Department at York University and is pursuing doctoral studies in Communication and Culture at York.

Amy Bowring is a dance historian, researcher and writer, and the founder of the Society for Canadian Dance Studies. As director of research at Dance Collection Danse, she has worked closely with Selma Odom, particularly in the publication of Canadian Dance: Visions and Stories (DCD Press/Presses 2004).

Seika Boye is a freelance writer, editor, marketing/communications consultant and dance artist. She is a former department editor with The Dance Current magazine and has been affiliated with Dance Collection Danse since 2004. She holds an MA in dance from York University.

Susan Cash is a member of the faculty of York University's Dance Department, and is currently in her fifth year as artistic and managing director of the York Dance Ensemble. Cash's choreography, which investigates site-specificity and intercultural exploration, has been significantly influenced by her Mohawk ancestry.

Paula Citron is a Toronto-based freelance arts journalist and broadcaster. She is senior dance writer for The Globe and Mail and is much in demand as a guest lecturer, particularly on the role of the critic/reviewer.


Michael Crabb is a Toronto-based writer, broadcaster and lecturer. He has been writing about dance for more than 35 years, contributing to a wide range of Canadian and international publications including the National Post and Dance International.

Daystar/Rosalie Jones is the founding artistic director of Daystar: Contemporary Dance-Drama of Indian America. A choreographer, teacher and writer, she teaches in the Indigenous Performance Studies program at Trent University, Peterborough.

Cheryl LaFrance, a graduate student in the MA Program in Dance at York, researches and writes about the choreography of Santee Smith. She is interested in investigating how Jungian archetypes are manifested in the works of female choreographers.

Ginette Laurin is an award-winning choreographer who has created work for the stage, television and film. She is the founding artistic director of O Vertigo, a Montreal-based company that has toured internationally for 20 years. Laurin initiated the Centre de Création O Vertigo at Montreal's Place des Arts in 2005.

Susan Lee holds a BFA in dance from York University and is currently pursuing graduate studies in York's new MFA Program in Dance. An active member of Toronto's independent dance community, she has also enjoyed a long working association with Kaeja d'Dance. Lee is also a choreographer and a co-founder of the long-running dance series 8:08.

Samantha Mehra is one of the first students in York University's new PhD Program in Dance Studies. An active dancer as well as a dance scholar, Mehra is engaged in pioneering research on Vancouver's Kokoro and iconoclastic artistic directors Barbara Bourget and Jay Hirabayashi.

Selma Odom is a distinguished dance scholar and educator whose academic career has been characterized by her generous passion for promoting and fostering scholarly dance research and writing. Odom retired from York University's Department of Dance in December 2008 after 37 years of service. Her legacy at York includes the MA Program in Dance which she founded in 1976, and the PhD Program in Dance Studies, launched in 2008, one of a handful of doctoral programs in dance worldwide.

Sara Porter is a freelance writer, choreographer, performer and teacher. Her writings on dance have been published over the past 15 years in various books, magazines and journals in Canada and the U.K. She will read from her upcoming book (Dance Collection Danse) about Peter Boneham, long-time champion of Ottawa's Le Groupe Dance Lab.

Alejandro Ronceria is a Columbian-born choreographer, director and film artist now based in Toronto. An influential figure in indigenous dance, he was the first director of the aboriginal dance program at the Banff Centre for the Arts. He is currently pursuing graduate studies in choreography and dance dramaturgy in York University's new MFA Program in Dance.


Santee Smith is a dancer, choreographer and founding artistic director of Kaha;wi Dance Theatre. A member of the Mohawk Nation, Turtle Clan, her work mines veins of tradition and contemporaneity. She has choreographed for both stage and screen, and her works, including Kahawi:She Carries, and Here on Earth, have toured widely.

Grant Strate, Professor Emeritus of York University and Simon Fraser University, was the founding Chair of York's Dance Department. He went on to direct Simon Fraser's School for the Contemporary Arts and was a key player in the establishment of Vancouver's Dance Centre. Acclaimed as the senior statesman of Canadian dance, Strate has been at the heart of major developments in Canadian ballet and modern dance, in both the professional and academic milieus, since the 1950s. He represents Canada internationally through engagement with the World Dance Alliance.

Veronica Tennant first won international acclaim as a prima ballerina with the National Ballet of Canada. She went on to a successful career as an arts broadcaster and more recently, as a producer and director of films on dance and performance. Her passion for creating and animating Canadian dance on the screen and the stage has been recognized by Canada's most prestigious awards.
