Dr. Dodge is a specialist in late medieval and Renaissance art and architecture, and the historical study of artists' techniques. Her research centres on technical and iconographic issues in 14th and 15th century Italian art and on the roles and representations of women in Western historical art.

A former curator at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C., she developed and taught York's art history courses in Florence, Italy.

Dr. Dodge's publications include articles on 14th century Italian fresco painting, the artistic impact of Petrarch's Triumphs, six articles in the International Dictionary of Art and Artists, and numerous book reviews.
