William Mackwood, imageWilliam Mackwood's research focuses on developing meaningful stories told through a 'performance fusion' supported by sustainable ‘design on demand’. He is a founder and co-artistic director (with York theatre professor Gwen Dobie) of Out of the Box Productions. Over the past five years he has lead the design team for productions of Opera Erotique, The Third Taboo, Prior Engagement and Sound in Silence, and a new work, Bugzzz, a Cautionary Tale, that is currently in development.

As a professional lighting designer, Professor Mackwood has designed for, among others, Ballet Victoria (Court of Miracles, Peter Pan, Alice a Wonderland of Dance), Kaleidoscope Theatre (Little Women, Disney’s Aladdin Jr.), and Chemainus Theatre (Lost in Yonkers, South Pacific, Saint Joan). Recent credits include lighting for works choreographed by York University dance faculty Holly Small, Susan Cash and Keiko Kitano presented at the World Dance Alliance 2010 Global Dance Event in New York City, and Krystal Cook's Emergence at the Impact 11 Festival.

In addition to teaching, Professor Mackwood serves as director of design and production manager for the curricular performances of York's Department of Dance. He is a professional member of Associated Designers of Canada, CITT and IATSE Local 168.
