John Mayberry has been a theatre professional for more than 30 years in a variety of capacities, working as properties builder, carpenter, performer, choreographer, writer and educator. In addition to theatre production and design, his areas of interest include health and safety issues in the entertainment industry.
Professor Mayberry sits on the board of the Canadian Institute for Theatre Technology (CITT) and of Theatre Ontario, and currently serves as Chairman of the Technology Commission of OISTAT, the International Organization of Scenographers, Theatre Architects and Technicians. He is an active member of the Health and Safety Commission of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), acting as a liaison with its Education Commission.
John Mayberry is also a folk singer and a member of the Toronto Morris Men, presenting traditional English Morris dancing. As one of the irrepressible "Bullero Brothers", he has won a following among enthusiasts of 19th century vaudeville. He has a keen interest in prestidigitation and early stage illusions, and is certified in theatrical pyrotechnics.
