Steve Munro
Production
Steve Munro began making films and experimenting with sound at a very early age. Making his first film in grade school. He attended the Motion Picture Studies program at Ryerson Polytechnic in Toronto. Since that time he has been responsible for the Sound Design on many of Canada’s finest independent feature films. I’ve Heard the Mermaids Singing, Dance Me Outside, Exotica, The Sweet Hereafter, Last Night and Ararat to name a few. Munro has also sound designed many of Canada’s most important documentaries including, The Falls, Shinny, Narmada - The Valley Rises and In the Gutter and Other Good Places. He has worked with a myriad of directors and producers from around the globe including Atom Egoyan, Robert Lantos, Bruce McDonald, Patricia Rozema, Paul Schrader and Ivan Reitman. He has been recognized at home and abroad for his sound work being honoured with awards from the Genies, Gemini’s, Hot Docs, Yorkton, MPSE, FESPACO and the Directors Guild of Canada. Munro primarily works out of his Toronto post production studio Trackworks which has seen features, documentary and television totalling hundreds of hours of production over the last 25 years. Steve Munro teaches sound for film in the Department of Film, Faculty of Fine Arts at York University and has lectured on the subject both here and abroad. Recently he was invited to speak at prestigious The School of Sound Symposium in London England.
