Before turning to film, Marie Rickard pursued a successful dual career as an actor and English teacher, as well as working extensively in the visual arts. As a graphic designer she worked for Macleans and Canadian Performing Arts Magazine in Toronto, and for various studios in California. Her paintings have been exhibited in France and are found in a number of private collections in Europe.
A prolific author, Professor Rickard's writing credits include scholarly articles, short stories, plays and poetry; much of her poetry has been performed in both Spain and New York. She has served as assistant director and story editor for films, and has written half a dozen screenplays for film and television. She is currently working on a collection of short stories and a feature film screenplay.
Professor Rickard currently serves as Master of Winters College at York University.
