Imasco Performing Arts Awards

The E. S. Rogers Film & Video Scholarship

Criteria:
- Awarded in recognition of academic excellence to a Year 4 production student in the Department of Film to help offset production costs for an approved fourth-year project of outstanding merit.
Lynn Sarah Torode Memorial Scholarship
Value of Scholarship: 2 at $600
Application Process: Department of Film selects recipient. No application required.
Criteria:
- Given in recognition of academic/artistic excellence and promise
- 4th-year student specializing in cinematography or television in the Department of Film.
- Preference will be given to a female student as this award commemorates Lynn Torode, the first female cinematographer at the CBC.
African Film Now/Le Cinema Africain Award
Value of Award: 2 at $1,000
Application Process: Must apply.
Criteria:
- Must have a GPA of 6.0 or better
- Must be enrolled in at least one African cinema course in the Departmentt of Film or researching, writing or producing films related to Africa, African heritage or the African Diaspora.
Jordon Somers Memorial Award in Film
Value of Award: $500

Criteria:
- Open to 2nd, 3rd or 4th year film students

- Preference will be given to students in screenwriting.

- This award recognizes exceptional artistic merit and achievement shown by a Year 3 film and video major

- Will be awarded at the end of the Winter 2012 term to a 3rd year Film & Video major returning to 4th year production
Universal Studios Canada Film & Video Scholarship
Value of Award: 2 at 1,250
Application Process: Student must complete a Student Financial Profile and apply to this Scholarship. When completing the profile, please include a personal statement outlining your outstanding achievement in production work to date and on the merit of the 4th year project proposal.
Criteria:
- Awarded to t 4th year film and video majors in recognition of outstanding achievement in production work to date and the merit of their fourth-year project proposals.
- Scholarship used to offset production expenses of the fourth-year projects.
- All 4th year production students who have submitted project proposals are automatically considered.
- Successful candidates will receive their Scholarship funds upon presentation of receipts for production expenses associated with their fourth-year project.
James Beveridge Bursary

The Karabekos Award
Value of Award: 2 at $300
Application Process: No SFP required
Critieria:
- Awarded to students undertaking ethnomusicological field research in non-North American based musics,
- showing prowess in composition incorporating elements outside the Western Art Music tradition, or demonstrating unusual performance ability in a variety of musical styles, including the non-Western.
- Academic standing is a prime consideration.
- No application is required.
Marion Lower Prize in Composition

Oscar Peterson Bursary

Oscar Peterson Scholarships - MTCU
Value of Scholarship: 1 at $10,000
Application Process: Submission of Current Student Financial Profile. Applicants must complete the Personal Statement section outlining how they meet the criteria for this scholarship.
Criteria:
- Awarded to one 4th year student in the Music degree program who demonstrates a unique musical ability, especially in the field of jazz performance, as demonstrated through live performance or a portfolio
- Applicants must present a minimum sessional GPA of 7.50
- Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, and a resident of Ontario
- Must demonstrates financial need.
Oscar Peterson Scholarships

- Outstanding music majors enrolled in FA/MUSI 3051.6.0 (Jazz Workshop III)
- Maintained minimum B+ (7.0) average in jazz program with a minimum C+ (5.0) overall cumulative average
Sterling Voice Award
Value of Scholarship: 1 at $6,273 (One year's tuition)
Application Process: Must apply. Must apply. Submission of Student Financial Profile is required
Criteria:
- Awarded to a student who will be entering his/her 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of full-time undergraduate study in music, specializing in vocal performance.
- Intended to support aspiring singers of outstanding promise who could not otherwise afford to devote sufficient time and effort to advanced vocal and musical studies.
- Covers cost of full time tuition for student.
- Will be awarded in the Fall of the next academic year to selected recipient.
- Must have successfully completed a minimum of 24 credits with a cumulative GPA of 6.00 (B)
- Must demonstrate financial need
- May apply or be nominated by a York faculty member before Spring deadline. Nominations to be delivered to Department of Music
- Recipient will be expected to enroll in a minimum of 18 credits in an overall program of study that has been vetted and approved by the Director of Classical Vocal Studies.

Saint Thyagaraja Music Award

Criteria:
- The Saint Thyagaraja Music Awards are presented to full-time undergraduate music majors and non-majors in recognition of artistic and scholarly achievement in Indian classical music studies.
- One award is given for demonstrated artistic excellence to a student enrolled in performance studies (vocal/instrumental) of Indian classical music.
- A second award recognizes top standing in the academic study of Indian classical music.
- Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, be Ontario residents and demonstrate financial need.
Sorbara Award in Music

Criteria:
- The Sorbara Award in Music recognizes outstanding creative achievement in music in the areas of composition, improvisation or sound design.
- Awarded to Year 3 music majors who are pursuing studies full-time and who will be proceeding into Year 4 of study are eligible to apply for this award.
- Awarded in the following academic year when student is registered as a full time continuing student.
- Recipients must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons, residents of Ontario and demonstrate financial need.
Orpheus Award

Arcadia Academy of Music Scholarship

- Must have completed a minumun of 48 credits and have a minimum GPA of 7.50(B+) in the honours music performance program

- Prize is given for exceptional acting performance in a play presented by York during that year.
- The prize is a free subscription to the four or five plays to be presented by the University Alumnae Dramatic Club at the Alumnae Theatre in the following season.

Willowdale Group of Artists Painting Award
Value of Award: 1 at $1,250

Criteria:
- Given to a student who is entering Year 4 of undergraduate study in the Department of Visual Arts who intends to enrol in the 4000-level painting course in their final year
- Has achieved a grade of 7.00 (B+) or better in at least two painting courses at the 3000 level.
- Recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and an Ontario resident who demonstrates financial need.
- Recipients will also be given a solo exhibition of her/his paintings in the Gales Gallery in the winter term of his/her final year.
- A painting portfolio is required (slides or CD format only).
Joseph Drapell Award
Value of Award: 4 at $500.00

- Given annually to one or more visual arts majors in recognition of artistic and academic excellence.
- Eligible students will be in Year 2 or a higher year of study in the BFA program.

Jennifer Ivey Bannock Digital Photography Bursary
Value of Award: 1 at $2000
Application Process: Complete SFP. No application required as faculty will nominate recipient.
Criteria:
- Given annually to one student in their fourth year (having earned a minimum of 84 credits),
- selected by faculty members in the Visual Arts program.
- The recipient must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person
- Must be resident of Ontario, who demonstrates financial need.
- In addition, the recipient will be provided with an opportunity to exhibit in the Gales Gallery in the winter term and will be expected to present his/her work to fellow students concentrating on photography in the Visual Arts program.
Joan and Martin Goldfarb Scholarship
Value of Scholarship: 1 at $5000
Application Process: Complete SFP and apply to scholarlship
Criteria:
- Awarded to an undergraduate visual arts student in recognition of outstanding creative and/or scholarly achievement.
- Recipient must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 7.80 or higher and have earned a minimum of 18 credits.
- Recipient must also be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person and resident of Ontario, who demonstrates financial need.
The Ken Carpenter Award
Value of Award: 2 at $800
Application Process: Must apply. Submission of Student Financial Profile is required.
Criteria:
- Must be a Visual Arts major who is enrolled in at least one half-ourse in art history at the 3000 level.
- OSOTF: Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or protected person, and aresident of Ontario
- Must demonstrate financial need

Demonstrating Financial Need
Many awards require demonstration of financial need. By completing your Student Financial Profile you will fulfill this criteria when applying. You are also encouraged to submit a written summary of your financial need within the application form.
Eligibility
Students are encouraged to apply for all awards for which they are eligible. Criteria for each award are listed on the Student Financial Services webpage.
Department vs. Pan-Faculty Awards
Some awards are available to all Faculty of Fine Arts students while others are department-specific. Please check the eligibility criteria carefully before submitting an application.
Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund (OSOTF)
All awards with OSOTF (Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund) criteria require completion of residency information which requires applicants to be Canadian citizens or permanent residents or have protected persons status, and be residents of Ontario.
Award Recipients & Funds
Students who are successful applicants (recipients) will have the funds applied to their student accounts, as per University policy. After this transaction occurs, each recipient will be sent a letter of congratulations from the Chair of the Faculty of Fine Arts Awards Committee.
First-Year Students
First-year students are encouraged to seek a letter of recommendation from a York professor. This letter should be confidential and should be sent by the referee to the student's home department.
