Faculty of Fine Arts

York’s Faculty of Fine Arts is one of the leading centres for fine arts education in North America. Students are taught by experienced professionals and also benefit from collaborations with Toronto’s many fine arts organizations, such as the joint program with the National Ballet School, that ensure that our programs remain au courant.

The opening of the ambitious Accolade Project in 2006, with its impressive array of stage, gallery, classroom and studio space, has allowed the faculty to consolidate all of its disciplines: Dance, Design, Film & Video, Music, Theatre and Visual Arts, plus an interdisciplinary program in Fine Arts Cultural Studies. Their proximity allows for a vibrant and fluid interaction between disciplines, mirroring real life in the arts world and embodying the very essence of interdisciplinarity.

For more information about the Faculty of Fine Arts and its priorities, please contact David Timms, Chief Development Officer, Fine Arts and AGYU, at (416) 650-8478 or by email at timmsd@yorkfoundation.yorku.ca.

York Professor explores the machinations of the media through art

A 360-degree surround video and audio installation, spread across 10 large screens, assists viewers in understanding how they mediate the information they receive from the media and decide for themselves where the truth lies. It was installed at the Recombinant Media Labs in San Francisco in spring 2009.
