Fit at Founders
Fit at Founders provides Founders College students the opportunity to participate in free fitness classes taught by certified instructors.
The classes take place from September to April in each academic year and offer a variety of fitness activities. Since the program's launch in 2012, we have offered Yoga, Zumba, Pilates, Muay Thai and Women's Self Defence classes. All classes take place in The Arthur Haberman Room (023 Founders College).
We are always happy to hear from our students; if you have any suggestions about certain fitness classes that you would like us to offer as part of this program, please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org.

Our 2014-2015 classes and Instructors
Beginning the week of Monday, September 22, 2014, Founders College is pleased to offer all Founders College students the following FREE fitness classes:
Every Tuesday, at 5:45pm, Cardio Boot Camp with Alex Rabindranath.
Every Wednesday, at 5:45pm, Salsa with Mimi Starikova.
All classes are in the Arthur Haberman Room, 023 Founders College. Look for either Jessica or Deryk, our Student Social Coordinators, to help you sign-in for the classes. Jessica and Deryk will be working in the room throughout the year and are available to assist you with any questions you have.
When fitness classes are not in effect, the Arthur Haberman Room is used as a social/study space

Alex Rabindranath, Boot Camp Instructor
Alex Rabindranath is a CSEP-CPT (Certified Personal Trainer), Registered Kinesiologist who is currently finishing his Masters of Science in Kinesiology and Health Sciences and the Neuroscience Graduate Diploma Program at York University. Alex completed his BA in Kinesiology and Health Science minoring in Psychology at York University, graduating Cum Laude and on the Dean's Honour Roll. Alex has also maintained a strong fitness background working at the gym at York University since 2010 as a fitness consultant, personal trainer, Group Cycling and HIIT Class instructor, and working as a Kinesiologist and Clinical Manager at High Peformance Health Clinic and Move to Heal Health Clinic.
Alex has received recognition of his work winning the Fitness Consultant and Trainer of the Year in 2011-2012, the Meg Innes Fitness and Lifestyle Merit Award in 2014 and has been recognized through Student Leadership Awards while volunteering as a Peer Mentor and Senior Peer Mentor aiding new students in their transition to university life.
Alex is always looking for new research, exercises, and workouts, to enhance his own training and for his clients and fitness classes. His ever growing interest in the field can ensure you that you will be provided with recent and well researched health and fitness techniques and procedures to help you attain your goals. His research and knowledge translation skills will make the rationale and reasoning for your specific treatment easy to understand.
Sports and physical activity have been highly involved in Alex's life since he could walk and he believes in practicing what he preaches. He played competitive hockey and soccer growing up, and continues to maintain a very active lifestyle. In addition to running fitness and cycling classes, Alex keeps himself in shape with strength training, outdoor cycling, running, playing intramural and men's league ice hockey, co-ed socccer, ball hockey, tough mudders, and dragon boating.
Mimi Starikova, Salsa Dance Instructor
With 10 years artistic services to numerous individuals and organizations, Mimi Starikova is a well known, recognized and licensed International Ballroom Dance teacher, Zumba Fitness and Classical Hatha Yoga instructor. Mimi is not only an official instructor at York University (YU) and Seneca College (SAY) but also a member of Ontario DanceSport (ODS), Ontario Dance Association (ODA) and the current president of International Ballroom Dance Association (IBDA) and Toronto Yoga Centre (TYC).
