  • Associate Professor Geoffrey Reaume will give a keynote address, entitled "Concepts of the ‘Mad’ and ‘Bad’ Body in Disability History", at the "At the Limits of the Body" colloquium to be held at University of Manitoba on March 14, 2008.  Details about this colloquium are available at this website.
  • Professor Dennis Raphael will give a talk on "Maintaining population health in a period of welfare state decline: Political economy as the missing dimension in health promotion theory and practice" on October 9, 2007 in the Senior Common Room (Room 140) of McLaughlin College, Keele Campus of York University.
  • Professor Geoffrey Reaume will give a keynote closing address at the "Eugenics and Sterilization in Alberta: 35 Years Later" conference in Alberta on April 27-28, 2007. Details about this conference are available at this website .
  • Professor Dennis Raphael will appear before the Canadian Senate's Subcommittee on Population Health, Wednesday, February 28, 2007 in Ottawa. His brief is entitled "Social Determinants of Health: Implications for Public Policy". The presentation can be heard at 4:00 PM on Wednesday at this website .
  • The M. A. (Critical Disability Studies) Students' Association is hosting its 3rd Annual Conference on March 2nd, 2007. Everyone is welcome. Please RSVP by February 28th, 2007 to dmoak@yorku.ca. For further information, please go to conference website here.
  • Professor Dennis Raphael gave the opening keynote address at the Annual Conference of the Canadian Association of Social Workers in Halifax, June 18, 2006. The title of the address was "Maintaining Health and Well-being in a Period of Welfare State Decline: Political Economy and the Social Determinants of Health".
  • The Canadian Disability Studies Association is holding its third annual conference at York University on May 27 and 28, 2006 as part of the Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences. The conference theme is: “The City: A Festival of Knowledge”. Deadline for proposals submission is December 15, 2005. For details, please refer to the website here.
  • Professor Geoffrey Reaume participated in a round-table discussion with four other researchers on “Disability and History” at the Annual Meeting of the America Historical Association, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on January 7th, 2006. A programme can be downloaded from here.
  • Professor Geoffrey Reaume will present at a workshop on "Everything you Wanted to Know About Psychiatric Disabilities but Were Afraid to Ask" on February 7th, 2006. For details, please refer to the brochure here
