• Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) local #3903
  CUPE represents contract faculty, tutors, markers, demonstrators, as well as teaching, research, and graduate assistants at York University. CUPE also covers its members under an extended health care plan. But students have to register for it and there is a waiting period before your coverage (such as prescriptions, dental care, etc.) is valid.
  
  
• Career Services ***
  The Career Centre is a team of professionals who work with students, staff, faculty, alumni, and employers to support students in their pursuit to realize their career potential. Services include career development programs and employment- related services designed to allow students to actively engage in the integration and implementation of their academic and employment choices. There are plenty of on-line resources to help graduate students available on the website.
  The Career Service office is wheel chair accessible and equip with Zoom Text software.
  
  
• Centre for Academic Writing ***
  The Centre for Academic Writing offers practical instruction in all aspects of writing to all students in the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and the Schulich School of Business. Some tutors specialize in working with ESL students, and in working with students who have disabilities affecting language learning and language skills. The chief method of instruction is individual tutoring where sessions usually last 25 or 50 minutes. We now also provide electronic tutoring.The Centre offers credit courses and a number of group workshops that deal with the major elements of effective essay writing. The website provides students with up-to-date information about the Centre for Academic Writing activities, and links to academic resources, such as style guides, dictionaries, an encyclopedia, and an on-line writing center.
  
  
• Centre for Race and Ethnic Relations (CRER) ***
  CRER was established to advise the York University on policy relating to race and ethnic relations. Another goal is to provide anti-racism education for the entire community and support/services to the University's multi-ethno-racial community. The CRER works in cooperation with several campus groups and associations active in the are of human rights, anti-racism and employment equity. The advisors at the Centre are available to give workshops on anti-racism and related issues to all sectors of the University. The Centre offers public education programs and a small resource library to increase awareness and action around issues of equity. The Centre is also a Complaint Centre that provides a confidential place in which members of the York community can seek information and advice regarding racial harassment and discrimination.
  
  
• Centre for the Support of Teaching (CST)
  Kicking off the year with T.A. Day in September, CST offers resources and workshops focused on issues relevant to teaching assistants and faculty. Seminars are scheduled throughout the year, on topics such as ebing an effective T.A., how to mark efficiently, and how to deal with academic dishonesty and sexual harassment.   This office is a source of a wealth of information regarding student groups, clubs and associations operating on the York University campus. The website provides links to information regarding off-campus housing, disability services, religious organizations, health and education promotion, student government organizations and services, student publications, university rules, regulations and policies and much more!
  
  
• Community and Legal Aid Services program (CLASP)
  CLASP is a Student Legal Aid Society. It is different from Legal Aid Ontario in that it provides services to persons without a legal aid certificate. CLASP is staffed by law students who are supervised by qualified lawyers. CLASP can help students with basic legal problems, represent them in certain courts and tribunals, and provide legal advice. It often helps with problems that might not think are legal in nature. It operates on a strictly confidential basis and will keep affairs totally private.

  This centralized centre gathers a range of services, including personal counselling, group development workshops, learning skills training, and support for learning disabilities and mental health disabilities, one virtual “roof.”

  The purpose of this Faculty Resource Guide is to increase disability awareness among faculty members, teaching assistants and staff at York University.

  FGS is a source of funding for conference presentations, a source of applications for various grants, fellowships, and scholarships, and whom you should consult when preparing your thesis or dissertation.
  
  
• Graduate Students Association (GSA)
  GSA represents all of the graduate students at York University. It provides partial funding for conference presentations, offers emergency loans to students, and publishes the GSA Handbook, distributed free to graduate students in September. There are monthly GSA meetings.

  York University has a partnership with the University of Toronto (U of T) libraries. Students can apply for a U of T library card with free borrowing privileges by taking your York Card and your Sessional ID Card to the circulation desk at either Robarts Library of the OISE library.
  
  Graduate Students may apply for extended loan privileges at the circulation desk at Scott Library, by submitting a signed letter from the Program Director that they are currently working on their Masters thesis or Doctoral dissertation.
  
  With extended loan privileges granted, books on a 2-week loan at the Scott Library, Steacies Science Library, Law Library, and Frost Library are automatically charged out for 100 days. Extended loan privileges automatically carry over from year to year. Students are not required to submit subsequent letters.

• Transgendered Bisexual Lesbian Gay Alliance (TBLGA@York)
  TBLGA@York is a student-run service supported by the York Federation of Students (YFS). TBLGAY provides services to York University's transgendered, bisexual, lesbian and gay communities and their friends. We offer support, social, political and educational programming, a safe space, community referrals and a small resource library.

  The Volunteer Centre of York University (VCYU) is a student-run service promoting volunteerism at York University. It is a liaison between students who would like to donate their time and skills and non-profit organizations seeking volunteers.

• York Women's Centre (YWC) ***
  YWC is the first udniversity-based Women's Centre in Canada. The centre provides direct services to Women and Trans People who would like support finding housing, going through the legal system and York University offices, finding reliable health care and other support. Services include crisis intervention, peer counselling, advocacy and referrals on a broad base of issues including housing, legal aid, financial help, psychiatric survivor and consumer issues, HIV/AIDS education and care, birth control, and much more.
